　　阿里（福里斯特·惠特克 Forest Whitaker 飾）和母親是從曾經慘絕人寰的種族屠殺中幸免于難的幸存者，雖然如今的他已然出人頭地成為了開普敦警局重案組的負責人，但兒時充滿了血腥和恐懼的回憶依然沉淀在他的內心之中，陰影揮之不去。　　布萊恩（奧蘭多·布魯姆 Orlando Bloom 飾）是阿里的下屬，他的家族成員曾經是種族隔離活動中的激進分子，不過這并沒能夠影響到他和阿里之間的信任和友誼。一連串兇殺案的發生和一種新型毒品的出現將城市推到了風口浪尖，直到這時，肩負著巨大壓力的阿里才發現，那些他以為已經成為過去的事情，其實并沒有真正的過去，也永遠都不會過去。
