　　阿寅（渥美清 飾）在一個小島的墓地休息時，遇到了來祭拜祖母的阿文（松坂慶子 飾），阿文在大阪工作，而她的奶奶選擇留在小島上。然而現在她的奶奶已經去世了，所以阿文來到墓地看望她思念的奶奶。后來在大阪，阿寅再次遇見了阿文，才知道原來外表典雅、文靜的阿文是一名藝伎，她是有許多應酬的頭牌。　　在交談中，阿文告訴阿寅她有個失散多年的弟弟，弟弟在五六歲時離開，現在應該已經有近20年了。阿寅鼓勵她尋找弟弟，并陪同她去找弟弟工作的工地，結果卻得知弟弟一個月前突然因心臟病發作去世了，大家已經替他料理了后事。這個消息讓阿文非常悲傷，她來到弟弟整潔的宿舍，意識到她在這個世界上已經失去了唯一的親人，這讓她感到無比凄涼。阿文回到家后，阿寅仍然對她念念不忘，直到她來到銀屋看望大家，并帶來了她要結婚的好消息，她準備和丈夫回小島開一家小壽司店。阿寅無奈地再次嘗到失戀的苦澀滋味。
