羅曼·杜里斯,黛博拉·弗朗索瓦,貝熱尼絲·貝喬,肖恩·本森,繆繆,尼古拉斯·貝多斯1958年的法國。21歲的露絲·龐飛樂（黛博拉·弗朗索瓦 Déborah Fran?ois 飾）與父親在下諾曼底共同經營一家雜貨店 。小小年紀的她對店里的打字機產生了濃厚的興趣，常常趁夜深人靜時分偷偷練習打字。父親為露絲安排了與當地維修汽車的男孩的婚事，可是野心勃勃的露絲并不甘于成為一個鄉下主婦。懷著對城市生活的向往，露絲前往路易（羅曼·杜里斯 Romain Duris 飾）的保險公司應聘秘書。面試中，雖然路易對露絲的工作能力深表懷疑，但露絲飛快的打字技術令路易感到異常震撼，當即決定錄用露絲成為自己的新秘書。但是路易心中也打著自己的小算盤。始終飽受父親嘲諷的路易決定擔當露絲的打字教練，只為了通過讓露絲拿到世界冠軍來證明自己的能力。露絲為了不回到鄉下便接受了路易的挑戰。路易化身嚴酷的教練，對露絲毫不手軟；露絲的打字技術倒也突飛猛進。眼見勝利在望，兩人卻也都感受到了彼此之間微妙的變化。
